Nobel Prizes
- Egypt is the only country in the Arab and Middle East region to win four Nobel Prizes within 27 years: two peace prizes, one in literature and one in chemistry.
Economic Indicators
- Egypt was ranked the No. 1 economic reformer in the Middle East in 2009 for the third year in a row, as well as on the top 10 global reformers lists. (World Bank "Doing Business" 2009).
- GDP Growth Rate: Rate more than doubled from 3.2% in 2002/03 to 7.5% in 2007/08.

- Modern Egyptians have access to over 400 uncensored Egyptian, Arab and International TV channels (2009).
- Number of licensed newspapers: increased from 512 in 2004/05 to over 521 newspapers in 2009, over half of which are privately owned.
- Number of Museums: increased from 36 in 2004/05 to 40 in 2006/07.
Social Indicators
Health:
- Number of public and rural hospitals and villages medical units: increased from 5209 in 2004/05 to 6674 in 2007/08.
- Total expenditure on health (LE billion): increased from 9.7 in 2004/05 to about 15.2 in 2007/08.
Education:
- Number of enrolled students in pre-university education (million students): increased from 17.1 in 2004/05 to 17.7 in 2007/08.
- Percentage of students in higher and university education: increased from 26% in 2004/05 to 28% in 2007/08.
Millennium Development Goals
- Egypt is on the right track to realizing most of the Millennium Development Goals by the set date of 2015.
Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger:
- Egypt has adopted a national target of reducing poverty to 15% by 2011/12.
- Poverty Reduction: Poverty rate declined from 22.53% in February 2005 to 19.98% in February 2008.
Achieve Universal Primary Education:
- Primary education enrollment increased from 86% in 1990/91 to 94% in 2005/06, and it's expected that by 2015 almost all children of will be in school.
- The investment in education grew by 24% during 2006/07, reaching about LE 4.6 billion, compared to LE 3.7 billion in 2005/06.
Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women:
- Ratio of females to males in primary education at the national level: increased from 88% in 2000/01 to 93% in 2006/07.
- The percentage of women registered for voting: increased from 18% in 1986 to 39.8% in 2007.
- The first female judge was appointed in 2003, and another 30 were appointed in 2007 followed by further actions to expand that number.
Reduce Child Mortality:
- Between 1990 and 2006, the registered infant and under- five mortality rates declined by 49.5% and 56.1% respectively, with an average annual rate of decline of 3.1% and 3.5% respectively.
- Progress in measles immunization coverage: increasing from 82% in 1992 to 97% in 2005.
Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other major disease:
- In 2006, HIV prevalence was estimated to be around 2 per 100,000 in the population aged 15-24 years.
- Since 1998, no indigenous malaria cases were registered by Malaria Control Program throughout modern Egypt.
- Incidence rates of Tuberculosis on Egypt (per 100,000 population): decreased from 32 in 1997 to 28 in 2003 and then to 24 in 2006.
Ensuring Environmental Sustainability:
- The Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency implemented a national program for water reuse in forest plantation in 24 different regions in 16 governorates, creating 337 new jobs. The program should reach 40 protectorates by 2017 to cover about 17% of Egypt.
